Making a U-turn

Making a U-turn

The moment you recognize the Doom Loop, something important becomes possible.

You are no longer completely inside the doom.

That moment of awareness opens the door to what I call the U-Turn.

The U-Turn is not about forcing yourself to trust or trying harder to let go of control.

It is the moment you begin relating differently to the sensation that something is out of your hands.

But recognizing the pattern and fully stepping out of it are not the same thing. Because by the time the Doom Loop is visible, the body is often already flooded with sensation — tension, urgency, fear, contraction. These sensations can be incredibly convincing.

Learning to stay present with them without immediately returning to control is a process.

One that unfolds gradually as the body begins to experience that the moment of “it’s out of my hands” is not actually dangerous.

Seeing the loop is the beginning of freedom — but learning to step out of it takes patience with the body.

What the U-turn actually is

What the U-turn actually is

The goal of the U-turn is to neutralize the sensation of "it's out of my hands", because that's where the dooming starts.

When you are able to hold that sensation in the body, without the nervous system activating, it opens the door for a new way of relating to it. One that isn't built or discovered, might I add, but one that is rediscovered.

This starts with first recognizing when the dooming is happening; Becoming aware of the escape mechanisms, the escape emotions that flow from fear (anxiety, worry, frustration, impatience, numbness), and then bringing to light the emotions that -- up until now -- have been tabooed and suppressed.

Once you are able to do this, you can start interrupting the Doom Loop™, and take a step back from it.

That's the beginning of the U-turn.

Why the U-turn is not easy

Why the U-turn is not easy

The next step is transcending the Doom Loop™.

Instead of healing, we focus on stepping out of the loop altogether. When we are inside the doom, healing feels necessary. We need to talk to our inner child, go back into our past, change beliefs, etc. It keeps us in the loop.

Transcending means that we realize that all of it is a construct. It's just thoughts and feelings. Nothing more than that.

And our identity has formed around it.

It's your doom loop identity.

Otherwise known as the ego.

The you that believes in the doom, isn't really you. It's a protective identity.

For most people, the real difficulty is this:

You’ve been trying to change from inside the very identity that was created by the Doom Loop.

As long as this identity is at the helm, it will resist this U-turn. It'll double down on the escapes.

Because its entire purpose is to keep you away from the sensation of “it’s out of my hands.”

Realizing that you are separate from that identity, is that allows the construct of the Doom Loop™ to dissolve.

How it leads to trust

How it leads to trust

As the body gradually learns that the sensation of “it’s out of my hands” is not actually dangerous, something remarkable begins to happen.

The nervous system starts relaxing where it once contracted.

And what begins to emerge in that space is something many people have been searching for all along: -> Trust.
